About Us

NEMS established itself as an LME approved Bonded and Fiscal warehouse in 1993, working closely with companies from the City of London, Russia and Scandinavia. In 1995 it was approved by the Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA) , also the year that Sir Tom Cowie bought the company. Gaining ISO 9000 accreditation for Metal storage and Bonded Operations in 1996, NEMS also expanded its Bonded Activities to include Wines and Spirits as well as Tobacco. Servicing companies throughout Europe and as far a field as the Falkland Islands.

In the following years the company expanded its warehouse estate in Sunderland and also to Newcastle, and Hull.

In 2002 NEMS started its General Warehousing Division, storing personal goods and stock in Containers, Cars, caravans and large quantities of bottles and can stock for our Bonded Customers. In 2003, the scope of our storage activities were further widened to include Document Storage for a range of solicitors, accountants and local businesses.

2003  also saw NEMS establish LME warehouses in Singapore as  NEMS (Singapore) Pte, with operations in China, Taiwan, and Malaysia  adding LME approved warehouses in Malaysia (Johor Bohru) in 2006 and Incheon (S Korea) in 2007.

In May 2008, the warehouse in Rotterdam was approved and in June storage facilities and a partner in Turkey were established for the LME Steel Contract and also for logistic operations.

2008, also saw the establishment of the “Electronic” document storage system in Sunderland and the NEMS Computerised Freight Management System, along with the extension of our own quality systems (based upon ISO: 9001:2000) to cover the Document Storage Services.

The company has come some way since setting out as a small LME Metal Warehouse Company based in Sunderland, UK, in 1993, utilising manual records and faxes; to becoming a logistics and warehousing company, operating throughout  the UK, Europe and Asia, with distribution and logistic hubs in UK, Turkey, Singapore and Shanghai, LME warehouses in 7 locations, and stock control and logistics operations in a further 12 locations, using computerised systems fed by suppliers and customers.

This progress makes us proud to be of service and to strive to provide a better, more personal service, the longer our relationship with our customer’s develops.
