About Us

NEMS was established in 1993 as an LME approved Bonded and Fiscal warehouse facility, working closely with companies from the City of London, Russia and Scandinavia.

NEMS was approved by the Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA) in 1995. In the same year, the company was bought by Sir Tom Cowie. In 1996, NEMS gained ISO 9000 accreditation for Metal storage and Bonded Operations. The company also expanded its Bonded Activities to include Wines and Spirits as well as Tobacco.

In the following years, the company expanded its warehouse estates in Sunderland, Newcastle, and Hull. In 2003, we established LME warehouses in Singapore as NEMS (Singapore) Pte, with operations in China, Malaysia and South Korea.

Our warehouse in Rotterdam was approved in May 2008. The following June we established another in Turkey for the LME Steel Contract and logistic operations.

In 2008, we introduced the NEMS Computerised Freight Management System. The company was acquired by Trafigura Beheer BV, the global commodity trading company in 2010. Trafigura then consolidated all of its bulk / commodity warehousing and logistics activities under its subsidiary Impala. Impala is
focused on all non-ferrous concentrates and refined metals as well as iron ore and coal. NEMS have now expanded into USA, UAE (Dubai) and Belgium (Antwerp). NEMS (China) is registered as a Chinese Logistics Company in Shanghai, with a new office infrastructure and management team. In Singapore,
NEMS (Far East) is now a wholly owned subsidiary with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan. We have also strengthened the company's Logistics team, with specialist managers based in Stamford CT (USA), Antwerp, Istanbul, Dubai, Singapore, Liverpool (UK) and Shanghai.

NEMS is now a sophisticated logistics and warehousing company. It operates using computerised stock control and freight management systems fed by suppliers and customers throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
